Phantom Empire -- Gene Autry
b&w 12 episodes VHS

Interestingly, Ken Maynard was originally cast in the lead role, but Autry won the part after Maynard's strange behavior during the filming of Mystery Mountain.

Autry plays himself for the first time in this film, as a rancher who is a singing star of a popular 1930's radio show. His radium mine is a target for crooks and during a hot pursuit, both the crooks and Autry stumble into the Secret Entrance to Lemuria, the underground empire.

This was the first of its kind, spawning tons of lookalikes and wannabes during the 1930's, 40's, 50's and even into the 60's.

Not a fave among reviewers of the time, this fabulous serial is now a cult classic and is considered one of the best of its genre.

101 Classic Jewish Jokes
by Robert Menchin

Click Here to Buy 101 Classic Jewish Jokes at Amazon If this were a physics book I'd recommend that every physicist worth his or her weak forces have one copy on their desk -- and another copy on the night stand.

But this is a book of humor so we don't have to limit the field of recommendation to physicists. Everyone should have a copy of this book.

Collected between a single pair of book covers you will find 101 truly classic Jewish Jokes. They are not original -- they are classic. They are good versions, told well, in a fine presentation.

If you read only one book on Jewish Humor this should be it.

This is the book I wished I'd read first -- first before I bought half a zillion books just to find one or two of these stories in each.

It would have saved me a bundle -- even at wholesale. Nah, I take that back. If I'd found this first I might have missed discovering a few of the truly great gems I found buried away in the back shelves of used and rare book stores.

But more about that another time.
